Zero-five-forty.
Callum Hayes woke to the collar’s soft pulse against his throat and a steel reminder between his legs that last night had not been a nightmare. Cell Block C smelled like bleach and boys trying not to cry. Somewhere down the corridor a detainee whispered a prayer; somewhere else, metal clinked as someone shifted in their cage and failed to find a comfortable angle.
There was no comfortable angle.
He’d swollen against the chastity device exactly the way Nurse Okonkwo had promised. Every heartbeat pressed him into curved steel. When he rolled onto his side, the cage tugged; when he rolled onto his back, it sat heavy and ridiculous against his thigh. The thin grey shirt rode up in sleep. He yanked it down with shaking fingers and stared at the LED strip on his collar until the numbers burned: 05:47.
Orientation Hall. Zero-six. Solenne.
He scrubbed his face at the sink, pissing awkwardly through the cage’s slit while heat crawled up his neck, then followed the yellow line when the cell unlocked with a chirp. Other F-category males filed out in the same mid-thigh shirts, cages glinting, collars beeping soft acknowledgements as they passed zone markers. Nobody made eye contact. A few looked at his cage anyway - size three, still pink at the tip where flesh tried and failed - and looked away fast.
Callum told himself he would be on time. He told himself he would keep his mouth shut. He told himself the private-over-the-knee threat was just theatre.
He believed none of it by the time he reached the corridor junction and realised he’d taken the wrong turn toward the laundry wing.
05:58.
He ran.
The cage bounced. The shirt flapped. A guard barked “Walk, Hayes,” and he forced himself into a humiliating half-jog that still made the steel rattle loud enough for two passing officers to smirk. Orientation Hall’s double doors were already shut when he arrived. The wall clock above them read 06:02.
Late.
He pushed inside anyway.
The hall was a long, bright room with polished floors and a raised platform at the far end. Twenty young men knelt in a neat grid - knees on thin mats, backs straight, hands behind heads, eyes down. Cages on display. Collars lit soft green. At the front, Commander Rhea Solenne stood with a tablet, black uniform immaculate, auburn hair still pinned like a weapon.
Every head stayed down. Only Solenne looked up.
“Hayes,” she said, mild as weather. “How generous of you to join us.”
“I got turned around, Ma’am. The yellow-”
“Stop.”
He stopped.
“You were given a map in your cell tablet. You were given a verbal briefing. You were given a collar that chimes at zone boundaries.” She scrolled. “You were also given a warning last night. Do you remember it?”
His mouth went dry. “If I’m late, I go over your knee before breakfast. Privately.”
A ripple of breath moved through the kneeling grid. Someone’s cage clicked softly as he shifted.
Solenne’s gaze flicked over the room. “Eyes down, gentlemen. This is not entertainment. Yet.” Then, to Callum: “Front. Kneel in the empty mat. Hands behind your head. You will complete the drill with everyone else. Afterward, you will remain.”
He crossed the hall under twenty pairs of carefully averted eyes and dropped to his knees. The mat was thin. The cage pressed cold against his thigh. Hands behind his head made his chest open, shirt ride up, steel impossible to hide. His ears burned so hard he thought they might set off the collar’s voice log.
“Deference Drill One,” Solenne announced. “Posture. Silence. Acknowledgement. You will hold until I release you. If you speak without permission, you earn a demerit. Three demerits before Day Seven and your judicial stroke count increases by ten. Nod if you understand.”
Twenty heads nodded. Callum nodded late.
“Verbal from the late arrival.”
“Yes, Ma’am.”
“Louder.”
“Yes, Ma’am.”
She walked the grid slowly. Heels soft on polish. When she passed Callum she paused long enough for him to smell that clean soap again, then continued as if he were furniture with a pulse.
“Chin down. Shoulders back. Knees wider - yes, Hayes, wider. The cage is not an invitation to close your legs. It is a reminder that your cock is not yours.”
Someone near the front whimpered. Solenne did not stop.
“Acknowledgement phrase. On my mark, together: I obey female authority.”
“I obey female authority,” the room chorused.
Callum’s voice cracked on obey. He felt it. She heard it.
They held. Minutes stretched. His thighs shook. Sweat gathered under the collar. The cage felt tighter with every throb of leftover morning arousal and fresh dread. Solenne made them repeat the phrase. Made them count breaths. Made them thank her for the discipline of stillness.
On the twelfth repetition Callum’s mouth betrayed him.
It wasn’t even a full sentence - just a hissed “this is insane” under his breath when his left calf cramped and he shifted without permission.
The room went still.
Solenne’s heels stopped beside his mat.
“Hayes. Eyes up.”
He looked up. Mistake. Her face was calm. Interested. The way a surgeon is interested.
“What did you say?”
“Nothing, Ma’am.”
“Lying earns a demerit. Repeating the truth earns honesty points you don’t have yet. Choose.”
His jaw worked. Pride and fear collided and pride lost by a hair. “I said this is insane. Ma’am.”
“Mm.” She marked something on the tablet. “One demerit. Mouth. Noted for your Day Seven brief.” She raised her voice for the hall. “Drill complete. Dismissed to breakfast - except Hayes. Hayes remains.”
The grid dissolved in careful silence. Boys scrambled up, cages swinging, shirts tugged down, eyes flicking once - hungry, grateful it wasn’t them - before they fled. The doors shut. Orientation Hall suddenly felt enormous and too intimate at once.
Solenne set the tablet on the platform edge.
“Stand. Shirt off. Fold it. Eyes down.”
His fingers fumbled the hem. Off. Folded. Cool air on his chest, on the locked pink of him. He stared at the floor until her boots entered his vision.
“Last night I offered you a kindness,” she said. “A private warm-up, if you were late. You were late. You were also mouthy. So we will expand the lesson slightly.”
“Please-”
“Hands at your sides. You do not negotiate the sentence. You receive it.”
She walked to a straight-backed armless chair near the platform and sat as if she had all morning. Crossed one leg, then uncrossed it. Tapped her thigh once.
“Over.”
The word landed like a switch.
Callum’s feet didn’t move. “Ma’am, I- I’ll do chores. Kneeling. Whatever. Don’t-”
“Hayes.” Soft. Absolute. “If I have to put you there, you lose the dignity of climbing. Over my knee. Now.”
He went.
It was worse than stripping in Processing. Worse than the cage click. Horizontal across a woman’s lap in an empty hall, shirtless, collared, cock locked and trapped against her uniform trousers, ass bare because the shirt was gone and he had nothing else - he felt the full stupid theatre of it. His weight settled. The cage pressed hard into the crease of her thigh. She adjusted him with brisk hands until his hips were high and his toes barely touched the floor.
“Count,” Solenne said. “Out loud. If you lose count, we restart. Twelve. Hand only. This is not Day Seven. This is breakfast manners.”
Her palm cracked across his right cheek.
The sound was outrageous in the quiet hall. Heat bloomed. His body jerked; the cage rattled against her leg with a cheap, humiliating clink.
“One,” he gasped.
“Ma’am.”
“One, Ma’am.”
Left cheek. Harder. “Two, Ma’am.”
She spanked like she briefed: efficient, unhurried, impossible to misread. Three and four landed stacked on the same spots until his skin sang. Five made him kick; she pinned his calves with her free leg without comment. Six punched a broken noise out of him that the collar politely logged as above deference threshold.
“Seven, Ma’am-” his voice cracked again, higher, boyish. Tears pricked. He hated them. He hated that his cock was trying to swell inside the cage anyway, traitor-dumb, grinding locked and useless against her thigh with every jolt.
Eight. Nine. The cage clink-clinked in a rhythm that felt like mockery. Solenne’s hand paused just long enough for him to feel how hot his ass was, how exposed, how small.
“You’re hard in a cage on a Commander’s lap,” she observed, almost kindly. “That is data, Hayes. Not romance. Your body is learning who owns the switch.”
Ten cracked across the sit-spot and he sobbed the count. Eleven made his fingers claw empty air. Twelve landed last and heaving, and he choked out the number like a confession.
Silence. His breathing. The soft electronic tick of the collar. The faint smell of polish and soap and his own shame-sweat.
Solenne rested her hand on his burning ass - not soothing. Claiming. Measuring.
“Up. Kneel. Hands behind your head. Look at me.”
He scrambled off her lap on shaking legs. Kneeling hurt in a new way. Eyes up. His face was wet. The cage jutted, flushed, a ridiculous monument to everything he couldn’t hide.
Solenne stood, retrieved his folded shirt, and set it on the chair.
“You will eat breakfast standing today. You will report to Block C laundry at zero-eight for chores on your knees - scrubbing, folding, eyes down, no speaking unless addressed. You will rehearse the acknowledgement phrase until it stops catching in your throat.” She tipped his chin with two fingers. “And you will remember that Day Seven’s paddle is wood, not palm, and the audience is not empty chairs.”
“Yes, Ma’am.”
“Say the phrase.”
“I obey female authority.”
“Again.”
“I obey female authority.”
“Dress. Go.”
He pulled the shirt on. The hem brushed blister-hot skin and cold steel. At the door he hesitated - leftover instinct, the old Callum who always needed a last word - and found nothing left that wouldn’t earn him another trip over her knee.
Solenne was already on her tablet, as if the warm-up had been a calendar item checked off.
“Hayes.”
He froze.
“Tomorrow you will not be late.” Not a question. “If you are, the warm-up doubles, and I invite Nurse Okonkwo to observe. She enjoys clinical notes on swelling.”
His stomach dropped. “Yes, Ma’am.”
“Good boy,” she said, almost bored - and somehow that was worse than cruelty. “Welcome to Day One. Try not to fail it twice.”
Callum Hayes walked the yellow line toward breakfast with a striped ass, a rattling cage, and the Day Seven bench already waiting in his head like a live wire. Somewhere in Detention Centre 7, cameras were already scheduled. Somewhere, mothers and girls and employers would watch.
Today he had only been late.
He still felt like the whole country had heard him count.
